Meet Me at the Eden Roc!
If there were a Swiss Riviera, it would most probably be in Ascona. A small picturesque town in the south of Switzerland lined with plane trees, a promenade dotted with restaurants, cafes and small pensions. The cobblestone streets behind the promenades are filled with boutiques, ice cream vendors, and specialty shops. The language spoken is Italian but you can probably get away with German or even English. Ascona is a charming medieval town with a Mediterranean climate.
Our favorite place to stay in Ascona – The Hotel Eden Roc!
Eden Roc’s location, at the end of the promenade and with direct access to Lake Magiorre, is second to none. The hotel has two pools, a spa, an asconautica water sports school and 4 restaurants each coveting their own Gault Millau Points.
We were guests at the hotel for two nights recently and it felt like coming home to a favorite summer holiday spot. We met up with old friends to enjoy the Swiss Riviera and Dolce Vita at the Hotel Eden Roc. Once discovered, it is easy to understand why the hotel has so many returning guests year after year.
The Hotel Eden Roc is a five-star hotel with the highest regard for guest satisfaction. Everything is possible, wishes are quickly translated into reality without a fuss. It is a place to relax, eat, and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
In my previous post about the Eden Roc which you can find here, you can read our hotel review. This post will concentrate on the many activities that are available to guests.
The hotel recently added two fabulous boats for their guests’ contentment. The Saffier, a modern sailing yacht which can be rented (including your own skipper) for a half or full day, and the beautiful Riva Aquarama motorboat.
We tested them both with a trip around the near by Brissago Island.
SAFFIER SAILING YACHT
BRISAGGO ISLAND – Botanical Gardens with over 1700 plant species.
(Feeling like a Diva on the Riva:)
After our boat ride, we had a quick bite to eat at the pools snack bar and we were ready to try some stand up paddling. The hotel offers a wide range of water sports including water skiing, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, banana boat rides and stand up paddling.
Stand up paddling. Yes, we can!
Here he comes…
… with LOUIS ROEDERER CHAMPAGNE!
An apèro under the pergola by the Hotels charming beach.
Dinner at Restaurant La Casetta paired with Louis Roederer Champagne!
A quick change and we are ready for our 6 course tasting menu at La Casetta Restaurant paired with Louis Roederer Champagne.
” Everything is a question of taste” -Louis Roederer
And taste we did! Their champagne is delicious and belongs among the best in the world!
The Casetta Restaurant, at the Eden Roc, has its own unique history. It was once the location of secret discussions for the unconditional surrender of the Germany army in Italy. After much deliberation and careful strategies, the negotiations where successful and it is said that these negotiations were responsible for shortened the second world war by 6-8 weeks which in the end saved thousands of lives!
Today this charming lake house has been converted into the lakeside restaurant Casetta and has 14 Gault Millau Points.
Fresh fish, pasta and grill can be enjoyed on the terasse of this charming house.
The Evening was still young and after this fabulous dinner, we moved over to the bar for a nightcap and a quick spin on the dance floor.
Breakfast is served at the Restaurant Eden Roc over looking the pool and the Lake Maggiore.
Good Morning Clifford Lilley, our favorite Style Consultant!
A walk through the old town.
Before we left we were fortunate enough to meet up with Carlo Rampazzi, the Swiss Architect, interior designer and artist who designed all 4 of the Tschuggen Groups Hotels. He is uncoventional, has a passion for colours and belongs to the top designers of Switzerland. He does not follow any style or tendencies yet he leaves his distinctive imprint on everything he creates. Each hotel he designed for th group has it’s own character, yet Mr. Rampazzi’s uncoventional style can not be overlooked in the details.
We spent two nights here in the month of June. Our days were filled with water sports, relaxation and culinary highlights both in the hotels cool Marina Restaurant and in La Casetta. We enjoyed tasting and learning about the House Louis Roederer but most of all we loved the location and the easy holiday feeling the Eden Roc has to offer. Thank you for having us!
